On my travels around SW France on my way to see a client and her garden in the Tarn et Garonne I ventured over a hill crest into the valley at Beaumont de Lomagne to see a shining becon of light!!
It was a huge farmers shed or barn shining in the sunlight. It was obviously a roof covered in photovoltaic panels but that was not all, the rest of the hillsides and land around was almost equally shiny.
So we make a huge song and a dance about the visual impact of the photovoltaic projects but does any one question the shiny plastic used in melon cultures?
The photovoltaic panels produce electricity and are about 85% recycled at the end of their life. The melon plastic however I have no idea how it gets reused, recycled or destroyed? In the meantime its visual impact is enormous, far more impressive than one barn roof!
